The Holidays Are Just Around the Corner

Earlier this week, I realized that the holidays are coming! Now, I'm not one of those people who feels a pressing urge to buy people really expensive gifts. I've been a student for almost my whole life! But I do like to make people things, and that takes time:) I'm notorious for delivering gifts well after the intended holiday. So this year, I'm starting in August! Behold the Scala Socks (can't say yet who they're for):

That's the finished sock in the background, designed by Stephanie van der Linden. It's from the German sock group, Socken-Kreativ-Liste. As many have noted, it's not very inspiring in that dingy blue. But after seeing Grumperina's color choices, I decided a red and pink sock could be cute. Thanks Grumperina! I decided to use Dale of Norway Baby Ull Dalegarn in Red and Shell Pink. A really lovely yarn...

I'm really happy with this sock so far, although I found the translated pattern a little cryptic, and the decorative edge completely wrong. Here's the progress I've made since Tuesday! I did a 20 row cuff, and worked 1.5 repeats of the leg pattern. Like Grumperina, I also plan to extend the pattern down the leg to the toe. Decreasing for this decision was quite an adventure. I think it makes the sock with heel flap look like a medieval chalice:)

And a close-up of the leg pattern...sorry it's blurry...darn camera...

Oh, and did I mention this is my first stranded knitting project? Here's the reverse!

Once sock #1 is done, I'll post an update and begin #2! Then I can move on to other gifts. I figure it's okay to start new projects if they aren't for you:) Until next time...

You've got the right idea, starting the holiday knitting early! I myself always start in the summer so I can pace myself and/or have time to knit other things that strike my fancy.

It's nice to meet you! I personally have two degrees in Ancient Dead People (BA and MA in Classics) with a focus on art and architecture.
